As principal of Pinewind Consulting, Katja Elias is a grant writer, editor and consultant based in Helena, Montana. Her background includes work with a variety of organizations and companies in the Rocky Mountain West. She was raised in Missoula, earning an MA in journalism at the University of Montana and a yearlong Fulbright award in Berlin, Germany. Her research projects focused on historical subjects, with undergraduate degrees in English and psychology. While she works independently, her commitments are collaborative with a focus on meeting people and organizations with support to improve products or results.

Pinewind Consulting is born of more than 20 years of editorial work, technical writing, grant writing and full-service editing in the fields of journalism, education, health and human services, curriculum development, architecture, renewable energy and the construction industry. At present, Katja focuses on work as a grant writer for state agencies and nonprofits, and as an independent editor and writer.

For more than a decade she has worked with Confluence Communications, a woman-owned small business in Montana that creates and implements specialized outreach and communications strategies, plans, materials and events to drive awareness and showcase the sustainability, integrity, and performance of programs and services. Katja’s work as lead editor for the educational consulting company E.L. Achieve for a decade helped develop curriculum guides for use in classrooms throughout the U.S. She also was the managing editor of a newspaper, a publication designer and a personal history publisher. Her blend of experience and interests dovetails with grant writing, curriculum development, and all levels of editing services to ease the publication process for exceptional results.

Katja takes joy in raising three children in Helena with her spouse. She likes to hike, paint and play with Montana Flute Association Flute Choir. She is fluent in German and carries out German-to-English translations. She is glad to work on speeches, presentations, digital publications, editing and publishing software, and historical research. Locally she’s involved on the board of Ironhorse Consortium for Young Musicians and is a former member of Helena Civic Center Steering Committee and Helena Symphony Chorale
